Dendrobium-Cattleya WhiteViolet Orchid

 Dendrobium-Cattleya WhiteViolet Orchid

I've just wanted to share with you peeps the new member flowering plant in my mini garden, the Dendrobium-Cattleya WhiteViolet Orchid. I bought this orchid for about P150.00 pesos only from one of the flower gardens in 2012 Mother's Day Flower Exhibits at SM Cebu. Accordingly, the name Dendrobium is from the Greek dendron ("tree") and bios ("life"); it means "one who lives on trees". Dendrobium is a huge genus of orchids and grows in diverse habitats throughout much of south, east and southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Borneo, Australia, New Guinea, Solomon Islands and New Zealand.

Gerbera as African Daisy

Baby Pink Gerbera /African Daisy

One summer day, my family and I went to Ardent Hot Spring in Camiguin Island, Philippines. We're there to celebrate the 3rd birthday of my cutest son, Rain and 6th birthday of my eldest daughter, Tara. The weather in the island in that day was very fine and it's very conducive to soak ourselves in the hot water spring of around 70 degrees Celsius. While they're busy swimming in the hot pool, I walked around the place and found there a newly constructed Butterfly Garden. Along the way to the Ardent Butterfly Garden, I've seen different kinds of flowering plants and I shot each one of them.

As you can see above, that's a Baby Pink Gerbera which is commonly known as an African Daisy. Accordingly, Gerbera is the fifth most used cut flower in the world after rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip. It's very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. Gerbera is a perennial plant that bears a large head(known as capitulum) with ray florets in yellow, orange, white, pink or red colors.
