Hibiscus as Gumamela - Yellow Red Color

Hibiscus as Gumamela Plant in Yellow Red color.

Here in the Philippines, Hibiscus is popularly known as Gumamela. It is best described as Island Flower Plant since it grows anywhere across the country. This type of flowering plant belongs to mallow family, Malvaceae and has over 200 known species. Accordingly, the leaves of this flowering plant are alternate, ovate to lanceolate, often with a toothed or lobed margin while the flowers are large, conspicuous, trumpet-shaped, with five or more petals, color from white to pink, red, orange, purple or yellow, and from 4–18 cm broad. Above photo is an example of Gumamela in yellow color petals with red spot in the center of the flower.

Usage of Hibiscus are the following: landscaping, paper-making, beverage, food, and symbolism & culture. One of the species of Hibiscus, Hibiscus syriacus is the national flower of South Korea.
